about jennifer

Jennifer NelsonHi, I’m Jennifer Nelson. I write mostly about health, fitness, food, wellness, travel, lifestyle, parenting and pets for a variety of clients.
I love making complicated health, nutrition and wellness info not so complicated and helping readers live their best life. I’ve written about everything from spa treatments to women’s heart disease to the latest trends in DNA.

Look for my work on the grocery store magazine rack in places like Reader’s Digest, Prevention, Arthritis Today, Women’s Health, Parents, Cooking Light, Fitness, Ladies’ Home Journal, Redbook and Woman’s Day.

My newspaper articles appear in the Chicago Tribune, the Washington Post, the Christian Science Monitor, Parade, USA Today and USA Weekend.

I also love to write (and talk) about the writing process and have written pieces for Writer's Market (Writer's Digest Books), The Writer and Writer's Digest magazines as well as having reviewed writing books for Writer's Digest Book Club. I’ve presented workshops and panels at writing conferences around the country on writing for the women’s magazines, penning non-fiction and living the freelance life.

The StaffDogs are another passion and my pet stories are published in Dog Fancy, Healthy Pet, Your Dog and The AKC Family Dog magazine, where stories are often inspired by my staff--two cocker spaniels.

Online I write for WebMD.com, LifetimeTV.com, Discovery.com, ivillage.com, and HGTV.com.

I've held editorial positions as contributing health horoscope columnist at LifetimeTV.com, as well as contributing writer at ePregnancy and Energy for Women magazines (now defunct) as well as Fitness magazine. I'm also a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA).

When I’m not writing, I hang out at the dog park (when the staff isn’t snoozing, that is). I love to travel, read, and head to the beach—not necessarily in that order. Drop me a line at nelsonje@bellsouth.net.  I’d love to chat about writing.

“If you find yourself alongside Jennifer Nelson facing tough editorial content needs, you are indeed lucky. She's a triple threat - a strategic storyteller, a fine journalist and a savvy public relations guru.”
